There is a new blog in the blogosphere entitled
Jesus Isn't Cool. Add it to your list of blogs to read. It is going to be a great way to stay in touch with Christian culture as well as a way to stay conversant with the movements that ebb and flow through the Christian Church. Tell me what you think!

Wonderful. When I was Roman Catholic, the thought of "cool Christianity" was laughable. The whole "Jesus rock" thing was always just a big joke, and honestly a lot of contemporary worship still makes me giggle.
And the other problem with it is that it reinstates a superficial popularity to Christianity that should be given up upon joining the Church. If you like hymns, suddenly you're the "church geek", since all the "cool" kids listen to contemporary music. At least those are my observations of the current church scene.
I am a relatively new reader here, a lot interesting stuff, yea I agree, our Lord is not cool in the way MTV pop culture puts it oo they would probably try to crucify Him all again for "boring" sermons on Hell and the Kingdom of God. But what is the NOOMA guy doing here in the picture and what do you guys think of him, I dont like their programs, the first one I saw was okay but the second one on "Forgivance" gave me a totally bitter taste of them: The reason to forgive is because you may not get the next chance forgive ie. you or the offender might end up dead(in the end you see some woman from the airport presumably getting killed in a car-truck accident as she goes away). I agree its sort of oversimplification but our Lord is mentioned only like 20-30 seconds of the whole 10-12 min movie and that too as some sort of example that He forgave others(indeed agreed but isnt the whole reason to forgive because we are to be like our Father in Heaven who forgave us even in His Son on the Cross, which is simply awesome and will make us rejoice in gratitude for eternity! I dont even hear it mentioned, it would easily pass for liberal theology, I mean forgive because some cool good guy called Jesus was forgiving everybody He came in contact with). Thanks for the blog Nate, very interesting reads. Lord bless all here.

The picture is the coolest thing that Grand Rapids Christianity has to offer...as opposed to boring old Christianity that I have to offer.
I got my own blogger blog started, if I can advertise here. One of my first posts is on the topic of contemporary worship, so it may be of interest since it relates to this post.

So true!
Cool is fine provided it's not made an idol and kept in perspective, something that I'm afraid the whole "relevant Christian" movement has lost. Yes, we need to address cultural issues. But that doesn't mean we need to become part of the cool machine, either.
