Concerning the fruit of Liberal Christianity and especially their view on Christology: "A devout Muslim believes more about Jesus Christ than the average Methodist, Congregationalist, or Presbyterian today".

Is that why they murdered Christians? They were upset over drawings made in jest of their god, knew their god couldn't do anything so killed believers of the true God? I'm lost.

This is what he meant: Muslims teach that Jesus Christ was an elevated prophet and that he died a martyr's death. They also believe that he is to be honored.

Many mainline churches question the historicity of Jesus as the seek for the "historical Jesus"

Does that help? Droll- the context was the atonement and the proclamation "it is finished."

I disagree with Lanning's statement. I think the "average" methodist, congregationalist, or presbyterian still believes that salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. The soteriology of the muslim doesn't come close. I say show me these church standards that deny salvation through Christ, and I may begin to believe that statement. Until then, such statements may fit the more radical element of liberalism in these churches, but certainly not the average!

While the gospel is offensive to unbelievers, this statement borders on offending believers. Such a broad generalization should be left to pollsters, not sermon notes!
