Reformed Presbyterians Sing!

Anyone who has spent time around the RP Church knows that singing of Psalms is something that is loved. I wanted to capture one of the songs from the International Conference to show how the singing is really a 'foretaste of heaven', as so many say. Enjoy 1600 RPs praising God!

How beautiful to hear God's people's voices raised in worship! I will never forget an RPCNA conference at Silver Lake I attended as a teen many moons ago. I think we in other denominations have much to learn from our EP brethern's commitment not only to singing the Word, but in teaching the people to sing it well.

I still love singing Psalm 119:9 ff as I learned it that weekend, taught both through the preaching and through repetitive joyful singing. This (formerly and still a bit) young man was duly impressed to keep his way pure by joyfully(!) "observing the word."

Thank you for posting this.

Thanks Nathan. I had been to every national conference since 1947 when I was 3 years old. It is breaking my heart to miss this one, but it couldn't be helped. Thanks for taping this Psalm.

Thank you very much.
I am now in Kobe Japan, but could feel the conference, which is beyond the ocean, close.
We Japanese RPs sing Psalms well, too, though we sing Psalms in different sound; in Japanese.
It is always powerful tool of the Spirit especially in the hardship.

is there anymore substance to Christianity than right worship & the RPW? what about the content of God's character, doctrine of justification, election, good works, &c.? how can we worship & sing to & of what we do not know from other doctrines / history from the Scriptures?

if a person can do one thing to the neglect of others, revelation "But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate." (with the context). christians must be vigilant against doctrinal locus morbidity, & it is sincerely hoped for this is not the case in the group addressed in the post. however, not much else has been seen from or about this group (rpcna) on this blog doctrinally. it is also known the commentors frequenting this blog are not exclusively rpcna.

matthew "You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former."

acts "TO AN UNKNOWN GOD"

john "You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

"i sang only the psalms and obsessed on that doctrine (to the detriment of other doctrines" is no grounds for God declaring a person justified in His sight, no grounds for one to do good works, no grounds for poo-poo-ing others.

it is understood that the psalms contain much doctrine & recounting biblical history & it is not unavoidably driving a wedge between the position exclusive psalmody & the rest of the Bible's doctrines if a person is to ask these things.

So wonderful to hear this group! I wish all the conference Psalm singing was taped and sold--so much more powerful than the very staged stuff we have had so much of the time.

Truly God's people praising God!

Thanks so much

Very pleasing to mine ears...

Anony - WI, I completely agree that it's dangerous to focus on one doctrine to the neglect of others. That said, the lecture Saturday night included a fine discourse on how we're only blessed for Christ's sake, not because we've got all of out theological ducks in a row. Other lectures and breakout sessions touched on some of the issues you raised. I wouldn't claim the RPCNA is perfect - no group of humans can be in this life - but for this Dutch Grand Rapidian, their zeal for Christ has been most heartening.
